The woman on the left has curly hair and is wearing a black jacket and a gray bag, while the woman on the right has long hair and is wearing a green sweater and holding a notebook. They are smiling at each other.

Lasima Packett, a proud Gen X’er, was born in Michigan City, Indiana, and spent her formative years in Los Angeles, California. In 1997, she returned home to Indiana to raise her family—planting roots in a state where she would go on to serve with distinction for more than two decades.

In 1998, Lasima joined the Indiana Army National Guard, launching a 20-year military career that included both a state-side activation and a deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). She retired in 2018 as a decorated veteran, having demonstrated resilience, discipline, and leadership under pressure. Lasima’s retirement from the military was just the beginning of a new chapter in her dedication to public service.

Since hanging up her uniform, Lasima has continued her commitment to her community as a civic leader, neighborhood advocate, and coalition-builder across Indianapolis. Whether leading revitalization efforts, coordinating multi-agency partnerships, or advocating for housing and infrastructure improvements, she brings people together to solve problems with purpose and compassion.

Lasima is married to Matthew, a fellow veteran who served 24 years before retiring. Together, they share three daughters and two beautiful granddaughters. Their journey through military life reflects a shared legacy of service, sacrifice, and unwavering love for both family and country.

Today, Lasima is running to represent Indiana Senate District 31, not just to lead, but to listen. Grounded in service and focused on solutions, she’s committed to building a future where families can thrive, and every Hoosier has the opportunity to live with dignity, purpose, and pride.
